The One Voice Choir-Ghana won award at the September 21 maiden Ghana Youth Choir choral festival in Accra. The choir received the award for the Best Album of the Year category with their local CD, ‘Monka Se Amen’.
The Ghana Youth Choir choral festival held at the auditorium of the College of Physicians and Surgeons was the first of its kind. The theme of the maiden edition was “Choral music: Uniting souls for a peaceful environment “.
The Album of the Year category that the One Voice Choir -Ghana won was very competitive. There were 9 nominated recorded albums with a blend of carefully selected choral music from great composers such as award-winning Newlove Annan, Emmanuel Owusu, Sam Asare Bediako, George Mensah Essilfie, Amos Tetteh, James Varrick Armaah, and K.O. Afriyie.
The occasion was graced with the presence of dignitaries which included The Deputy Minister for Culture and Creative Arts Industry, Honourable Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Prof. Emeritus Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia, the great African musicologist, who was awarded for setting the pace for choral music to transcend in Ghana, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee (mother of Choral music in Ghana) was awarded for creating platforms for choirs and composers to project choral music, and Prof. Johann Yaw Sakyi Baidoo.
The performances included the Akoo show Choir, One Voice Choir, Afro Maestros Orchestral Ensemble, Vocal Essence, Gramophone, and the Harmonious Chorale . Other thrilling and exceptional performances were by Award winners Lordina Eugenia Osei as well as Alfred Patrick Addaquay.
